Noel Whelan claims that Stuart Dallas will be one of the very first names on Marcelo Bielsa’s team sheet after emerging as a quality option at right-back.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds striker and lifelong supporter of the Elland Road outfit says that the Northern Ireland international looks to be loving his football this season, having been moved from an attacking role to a defensive position.
Dallas has been a mainstay in the starting XI this season in the absence of former mainstay Luke Ayling, the natural right-back missing the first games of the season through injury.
Having seen the natural winger play a squad role during the 2018/19 campaign, Whelan says that the 28-year-old’s rise to first-team mainstay is astounding.
Whelan told Football Insider: “He looks like he’s playing with a smile on his face, he’s very, very fit, defensively he’s become a lot better – he’s a player that, at the minute, is straight into the team, he’s one of the first names on the teamsheet.
“The performances that he’s put in have been quite incredible, it’s nice to see him enjoying his football. Last season was hampered by injuries, he was in and out, but this season he’s started like a house on fire.
“Probably the most improved player in the squad, to be quite honest with you.”
Dallas has featured in all six of the club’s Championship games this season, getting off the mark with a goal in the 3-0 win over Stoke City.
He recently hit a milestone 150 appearances for the Whites, with 15 goals and 12 assists under his belt at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has told Football Insider that one player at Elland Road is causing Bielsa a “huge problem”.
