Steve Bruce has told Aston Villa owner Tony Xia to put his hand in his pocket and buy Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale.
Bruce was asked by a supporter which player in world football he would purchase if money was no object and the promotion expert singled out Welsh superstar Bale.
The 27-year-old is currently plying his trade for one of Europe’s biggest clubs after making a £85million switch to the Bernabeu from Tottenham in 2013.
The former Southampton academy product has since gone on to lift a number of major trophies, including two European Cups.
Former Manchester United centre-back Bruce delivered high praise of Bale who is one of the most feared attackers in world football.
“Gareth Bale single handily you have to take your hats off to him,” Bruce told the club’s official YouTube account.
“He’s gone to Real Madrid, didn’t find it easy to start with and he has now performed at a level where he has made himself a superstar.
“So, if he becomes available, Dr Tony, then put your hand in your pocket and buy us Gareth Bale.”
Adding to his success with Madrid, Bale has also produced a number of top quality performances for his national side.
He helped Chris Coleman’s Wales reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016 last summer with eventual winners Portugal beating them in the last four.
The Cardiff-born player has been in equally devastating form this season despite missing a number of months through injury.
He has played 22 games in all competitions for the current La Liga leaders, scoring nine goals and supplying four assists.
Bale is currently working under the stewardship of France legend Zinedine Zidane who is regarded as one of the greatest players to have played the game.
