Steve Bruce handed major boost after Aston Villa injury crisis - report

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has been handed a major boost after the club’s injury crisis up front as Gabby Agbonlahor returned to training on Monday, according to a report.

The Birmingham Mail claim on their website that the 31-year-old forward has begun the next step of his recovery following a long term calf injury, which has seen him forced out of action for nearly three months.

The long time Villa man has been one of a number of layoffs which Bruce has had to contend with when selecting his side this season, with Jonathan Kodija ruled out for the season with an ongoing ankle issue, while Scott Hogan missing as a result of an abdominal injury.

The various setbacks have left the manager with just 19-year-old Keinan Davis at his disposal, so Agbonlahor’s return will help lighten the load of the youngster in the coming weeks.

The experienced striker, who has 388 appearances for the Villans under his belt, has made four outings this season, scoring after just seven minutes of the opening match of the campaign, which finished as a 1-1 draw against Hull City.

Bruce’s men, who drew 1-1 against Leeds United in their last outing, have a clash against Millwall at Villa Park on Saturday, as they look to continue their pursuit of securing promotion back the Premier League after a two season absence.
