Exclusive: Danny Mills moots potential out-of-window Leeds signing
Danny Mills has mooted the possibility of Leeds United making an out-of-window move to sign an experienced goalkeeper after Kiko Casilla was charged by the FA for the use of abusive language.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds and England defender says that the shot-stopper should be punished accordingly if found to be guilty of the charge but that a lack of experienced options behind him could force the club to look to sign a free agent.
Mills suggested “stranger things have happened” than Leeds making a move for their former keeper Rob Green, who lives near the city.
As detailed in an official club statement, Casilla denies the charges against him and will now face a personal hearing to determine the outcome of the case, with a potential ban on the cards if he is unsuccessful with his appeal.
Mills says that a long-term suspension could result in Leeds exploring the possibility of an out-of-window arrival over the coming weeks, with young pair Kamil Miazek and Illan Meslier Marcelo Bielsa’s other options.
Mills told Football Insider: “I have to say, Rob Green is out of contract, still available and he lives local. Stranger things have happened.

“I’m sure there are goalkeepers out there, unattached, without football clubs at the moment. I’m pretty sure there are keepers who have just finished this season and (Leeds could) go about bringing them in.
“If not, you’ve got to go with a young player. For the sake of football and for the sake of greater good and human decency, we hope he hasn’t done anything wrong. If he has done something wrong, then he deserves whatever ban he gets.”
Casilla has been an ever-present for Leeds between the sticks this season, playing every single minute of both their Championship and League Cup campaigns.
The Spaniard has a total of 35 appearances under his belt for the Whites since joining in the January transfer window, with former first-choice Bailey Peacock-Farrell leaving Elland Road for Burnley in the summer.
In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has been left drooling over one squad player who is like a “new signing” at Elland Road.
