Very few Celtic fans seem to have much interest in Scotland’s upcoming tour of South America, even though four Hoops players – Jack Hendry, Scott Bain, Ryan Christie and Lewis Morgan – have made the trip.
The trip is vitally important for Hendry, who could use a good performance or two in the games against Peru and Mexico to get some confidence after what has been a poorish series of performances following his January arrival from Dundee.
Interestingly, he seems to have played better for the national team than his club team, as he was excellent in the 1-0 win over Hungary in March, whilst he has yet to win a match he has started for the Bhoys.
Brendan Rodgers obviously likes the player, and he will be keeping a close-eye on his performances ahead of the Champions League qualifiers, which begin in July.
With so many big games in such a short period of time, there’s no doubt that Hendry will be involved in the qualification games, and if he wants to establish himself in the side for those games, some good performances for Scotland could go a long way towards that.
Hendry has to show that he can cope in the bigger games, and for the Hoops he has not yet done that, another good performance for the national side could give him the boost that he needs going into next season.
