'Stunning' - Exclusive: Darren Bent reacts to Newcastle signing
Darren Bent admits he was stunned when he heard Danny Rose was joining Newcastle United but believes the move could be beneficial for the left-back.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider Assistant Editor Russell Edge, believes the promise of “playing week in, week out” is exactly what the 29-year-old needs at this stage of his career.
The Magpies announced they had completed a season-long loan deal for Rose after he fell out of favour with Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, making only 5 appearances since the Portuguese’s appointment in mid-November.
The former Watford full-back has already spent time in the North East whilst on loan at Sunderland during the 2012/13 season.
Bent believes this was pivotal to the deal being completed.
The ex-Mackem told Football Insider: “It is stunning but at the same time he obviously likes it up there. I’ve heard that he’s been back up to watch Sunderland a few times. I think he likes it up there.

“It’s a nice place to live, it’s a massive football club, big fan base, and the most important thing is that he’s going to play week in, week out.
“He might be helped because him going in there, he’s better than what they’ve got there anyway.”
Rose takes the number 23 shirt at St. James Park having made his debut as a substitute in a goalless draw against Norwich this Saturday.
With full-backs, Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems ruled out for the rest of the season the loanee is expected feature regularly in the coming weeks.
