Sunderland will have funds available in the January transfer window if they are still in promotion contention, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 October) that Regis Le Bris has let it be known that he wants to be backed heavily if it will help the quest for Premier League football.

Le Bris and club chiefs are keen not to disturb the young nucleus of the squad which has had success this season, but it is believed they are open to making changes to the squad in January.

The Black Cats currently sit top of the Championship ahead of heavy hitters like Leeds, Sheffield United and Burnley.

If they are still within touching distance of the top two in January, they will press ahead with a calculated transfer splurge.

Le Bris to get January transfer wish at Sunderland

Sunderland have the funds available to make sweeping changes after the big-money sales of Ross Stewart and Jack Clarke in recent windows.

One target is former midfielder Jordan Henderson, who has struggled since departing Liverpool last year (2023).

Football Insider revealed on Monday (14 October) that Henderson is open to re-joining Sunderland should a deal be agreed with Ajax.
