Sunderland tipped to sign striker 'very soon' after Jebbison update - Phillips
Kevin Phillips is adamant Sunderland will beat Doncaster Rovers and Burton Albion to the signing of Daniel Jebbison if Sheffield United allow the teenager to leave on loan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the Stadium of Light legend predicted movement in Sunderland’s “priority” chase to sign a striker “very soon”.
The Black Cats are keen to add a striker to their ranks following the departure of Charlie Wyke and have identified Sheffield United’s Jebbison as a potential signing.
However, according to The Sun on Sunday (August 8th p. 67), the Blades are considering sending the 18-year-old to Belgian side Beerschot instead of League One.
Doncaster Rovers and Burton Albion are also keen to take the teenage forward on loan.
“You’d definitely like to think Sunderland would with the budget they have supposedly got,” he told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“The size of the club alone you think would be enough to attract Jebbison. They don’t get much bigger in League One.
“The priority for me is to bring in a striker before the window shuts. Lee Johnson might think differently but they need another player in that squad who can hit the back of the net.
“If you don’t have a player who gets you 15 to 20 plus goals a season you would struggle to even get in the play-offs. This is why I expect to see movement on that front very soon.”
