Sunderland to ‘review’ Regis Le Bris’ position amid sack speculation
Sunderland are planning to sit down and “review” the future of manager Regis Le Bris at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.
Speculation has been swirling regarding the 50-year-old’s future in recent days, but it is understood that he still has plenty of credit in the bank at the Stadium of Light.
The club hierarchy are aware of the Frenchman’s popularity among the fans, but sources say that their strong level of ambition is set to spark a review of their managerial situation regardless.
The Black Cats have struggled for form in recent weeks, and that culminated in their heaviest defeat of the season when they were beaten 5-0 by Nottingham Forest last time out.
Le Bris has been under pressure at Sunderland of late, and the last few weeks of the season could potentially be crucial when it comes to deciding his long-term future.
Sunderland hungry for quick progress in the Premier League
Sunderland had been away from the Premier League for 10 years by the time Le Bris got them promoted through the Championship play-off final last term.
The former Lorient boss hit the ground running during his debut season in English football, and his team recovered in excellent fashion in the post-season, having narrowly missed out on automatic promotion.
| Manager | Games | W | D | L | Win % |
| Regis Le Bris (2024-) | 89 | 37 | 24 | 28 | 41.57% |
| Michael Beale (2023-24) | 12 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 33.33% |
| Tony Mowbray (2022-23) | 65 | 26 | 17 | 22 | 40% |
| Alex Neil (2022) | 24 | 12 | 9 | 3 | 50% |
His strong work on Wearside has continued this term, and he is set to achieve the club’s initial remit of consolidating their place in the top flight with ease.
The Black Cats have never been in relegation trouble since the beginning of the campaign, but they have recently fallen out of the top half of the league table after a run of inconsistent form.
Owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is keen to ensure that the team do not stand still next term, and he has strong ambitions of progressing them further up the table.
As a result, Le Bris’ position is set to come under scrutiny next term, where in normal circumstances at other clubs, his job would likely be unequivocally secure.
Black Cats eyeing Championship raids to start summer business
Football Insider revealed on Thursday that Sunderland are tracking QPR striker Rumarn Burrell with a view to making a move for him this summer.
The Jamaica international has struck 10 goals from just 22 starts in his debut campaign in the Championship, and that has attracted Premier League interest, with Bournemouth also keen.
Sunderland have been paying close attention to some of the Championship’s brightest attacking talents in recent months, as they are also being heavily linked with a move for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu.
The Foxes are willing to sell the Ghanaian for as little as £20million after their relegation to League One, and he could end up at the Stadium of Light next term.
It is expected to be another busy window on Wearside, and Championship additions could mark the start of their summer business.
