Sunderland will 'struggle' to reject 'huge' Tottenham Brian Brobbey offer

Sunderland could struggle to turn down "huge" offers for Brian Brobbey in 2027 amid growing interest from Tottenham.

The 24-year-old has caught the eye of a number of potential suitors across European football after his stunning hattrick against Man City as Sunderland lost 5-3.

Since arriving at the Stadium of Light last summer, the Netherlands international has established himself as a crucial part of Regis Le Bris' starting XI.

However, former Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Black Cats may find it difficult to block Brobbey's exit if the right offer comes in.

Despite their reluctance to sell, there is a belief that every player has his price, and Brobbey is no exception despite his prominent role in Le Bris' plans for the future.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have been no strangers to spending big money in recent times after splashing £300million during the summer, and could look to test Sunderland's resolve.

How do Sunderland feel about losing Brian Brobbey?

Brown told Football Insider on 21 September that Sunderland are desperate to keep Brobbey at the club long-term and are aimnig to block any potential moves.

However, there is a feeling it may be difficult for them to stick to that stance if a big-money offer comes in, when they would be forced to assess his situation.

Tottenham are not the only interested club, as sides across Europe are believed to be tracking Brobbey, and Sunderland could see their resolve tested next summer.

"These types of deals are always difficult for a club like Sunderland," Brown told Football Insider.

"Obviously, in an ideal world, they don't want to lose Brobbey because he's done an excellent job for them and his a big part of everything they're trying to build there.

"But say a huge offer comes in tomorrow from Tottenham or somebody like that, I think they would struggle to turn that down.

"For clubs in Sunderland's position, the decision is about whether you think you can bring in a replacement with the money you make, or if this player is irreplaceable.

"For the right fee, nobody is irreplaceable, and every player has a price because at a certain stage the offer could be worth more than their valuation of the player.

"Then, they'd have to use that money and go out and sign a replacement, who they'd be taking a risk on whether he can be as good at Brobbey.

"So it's a tricky situation for Sunderland to be in if these big offers start coming in. Either way, I wouldn't expect it to happen in January, so for now there are no immediate worries."

Could Tottenham make a move for Brobbey?

Tottenham have been tipped as leading contenders to sign Brobbey after what has been a miserable start to the season as they continue to eye improvements for their squad.

Roberto De Zerbi's side are seriously lacking in attacking depth, with Dominic Solanke the only senior out-and-out striker in the squad as things stand.

As a result, former Tottenham scout Bryan King told Football Insider on 23 September that Brobbey would be a clear improvement on the club's current options.

Sunderland have been praised for landing the striker for a fee of £22million, and have now been tipped to make a significant profit with a £50million sale next summer.

While that fee is speculative, and any eventual fee to see him leave could be even higher, Tottenham and other interested parties will be keeping a close eye on the situation.
