Darren Bent has claimed that signing Josh King would be a “superb” move from Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa hitman argued that his old club have had an “A+” summer of recruitment, and could cap it off brilliantly with a swoop for the Bournemouth talent.
A recent report from The Telegraph suggested that Dean Smith’s men have launched a £16 million bid for the 48-cap Norway international, and are hoping to bring him in before the domestic transfer market shuts on October 16th.
And Bent believes that a late swoop for the 28-year-old would be the cherry on top of an eye-catching window for his former employers.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “It would be superb, because then you’re talking about Ollie Watkins, Josh King, Bertrand Traore – that’s a front three right there.
“They’re all proven so that would be brilliant.
“I’m surprised Josh King is still there [at Bournemouth] though.
“If Villa could go and get him as well, I really like what they’re doing. For me, recruitment-wise, Aston Villa have been A+. I expect them to have a really successful season.”
King suffered relegation with Bournemouth last season, despite hitting six goals and four assists in 26 Premier League appearances.
The versatile forward signed for the Cherries from Blackburn Rovers in 2015, and has since gone on to score 50 goals in 171 outings on the south coast.
