'Surprising' - Exclusive: Bent reacts to 'Strange' Mourinho decision in Tottenham v Norwich
Darren Bent says it was “strange” to see Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho bring Hugo Lloris back into the starting XI for the clash against Norwich City.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says that he was surprised to see the Frenchman take Paulo Gazzaniga’s place after his lengthy injury layoff.
Lloris was making his first appearance since the start of October against the Canaries, having been missing as a result of a serious elbow injury.
Bent says he did not expect the Frenchman to make such an early return but says if Gazzaniga had been more consistent, he could have stayed in the side longer.
“It’s surprising, but if Gazzaniga had played a little better and more consistent in the games, I don’t think it would have been that much of a discussion,” Bent told Football Insider.
“People would have been like: ‘Well, that’s fair enough,’ but because he’s been a bit indifferent – he had that first game against Liverpool where he was outstanding but he’s made mistakes and crazy decisions.

“For me, it is a strange one but at the same time, hopefully that arm’s healed because that was a big, big injury.”
Lloris has now played 10 times for the Lilywhites this season, managing to keep just one clean sheet in the games before his injury setback.
Gazzaniga has 23 appearances under his belt, all but two of those coming during his teammate’s lengthy absence, with five shutouts across all competitions.
