'He lacked confidence' - Chris Sutton tears into Celtic mainstay
By Danny Wright
Chris Sutton has blasted Craig Gordon for his consistently poor displays for Celtic in recent weeks.
Gordon, 34, has started all of the Hoops’ matches this season but has been prone to making mistakes in some of them, including against Hamilton on Friday night when he was caught in no man’s land when the Accies grabbed a consolation in a 4-1 win for the Hoops.
The Scottish goalkeeper has come in for some fierce criticism for his displays and ex-Celtic striker Sutton also hasn’t been afraid to chip in with tearing into the Parkhead stopper.
Now, former England international Sutton believes that Gordon needs to start showing much more confidence while playing in goals and has hinted that may have a positive effect on the rest of the defence.
“I don’t trust Craig Gordon in goal in the big games,” said Sutton as shown on BT Sport Football’s official Twitter account on Friday.

“He made a really poor error against St. Johnstone and that’s been coming. He doesn’t instill you with confidence when the ball goes back.
“On top of that the Astana game was a huge game and I just thought he lacked confidence. When you want your keep to instill belief in that back four he struggles.”

Gordon’s lack of good form may be down to the fact that he has no real competition for his No 1 shirt with Celtic as his only real understudy is Dorus De Vries, who barely ever gets a chance to pull on the Hoops jersey.
Former Sunderland ‘keeper Gordon is a mainstay for the Hoops and has made 12 appearances in all competitions this term while last season when the Bhoys won the domestic treble without defeat he featured in all but four matches across all contests.
In other Celtic news, Sutton has destroyed this defender for snubbing a move to Parkhead.
