Everton and Arsenal are in the hunt for Gothenburg goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg but could miss out on him to Premier League rivals Watford, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claims that talks are underway between Watford and Gothenburg for Dahlberg, 18, over a January switch to Vicarage Road.

It is understood that the Hornets are attempting to land Dahlberg in a seven-figure deal worth £3.3million and are hoping to get the transfer completed when the transfer window re-opens in January.

Dahlberg is said to be rated as one of the top young talents in European football and would no doubt be a good signing for the future for whoever lands him.

The Sweden Under-21 international is already a regular first-team star for Gothenburg, starring in all but one of their Allsvenskan matches last season.

Football Insider Verdict

Dahlberg looks to be an incredible talent but the goalkeeping position is perhaps somewhere that Everton have a solution for over the next several years. Jordan Pickford has perhaps been their best player this season and was certainly the best buy that Ronald Koeman made in the summer transfer window. Dahlberg has a long way to go before being able to play regular first-team football in the Premier League so it is perhaps best that the Toffees sit this one out an concede defeat to Watford. Marco Silva has given the Blues the slip a couple of times now as a bit of a rivalry is starting to emerge between the two sides over recent events.
