Championship promotion hopefuls Cardiff are in the hunt to sign Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic, according to a report.
ESPN claims that Middlesbrough are also keen on Grujic, 21, and both of the Championship sides’ managers have been in direct talks with the Serbian midfielder over a loan deal.
It is understood that Premier League clubs are interested in Grugic, but Liverpool would rather he moved on loan to a second-tier side in order to be guaranteed more first-team minutes.
Jurgen Klopp is said to be open to the idea of letting the 21-year-old midfielder leave Anfield on a temporary basis with him well outside the first-team picture on Merseyside.
The Liverpool outcast has made just six appearances in all competitions this season, with just 14 minutes on the pitch in the Premier League.
Cardiff are in pursuit of promotion to the top-flight this season and currently sit in third place.
They are well within a shot of automatic promotion as they firmly sit in the top four, three points clear of their nearest rivals Aston Villa.
Football Insider verdict
Grujic’s time at Anfield has been very tough for him. He arrived at Liverpool with a lot of potential but has not be able to realise it with his path to the senior team blocked. Klopp has not used as many young players as everyone thought he would have done on Merseyside. He brought through a lot of players with Borussia Dortmund but has only allowed a couple of youngsters to have much of a shot in the past couple of seasons. Grujic has not been one of them and a loan move is a good opportunity for him. If anything, the Serbia international should look to leave for good.
