Tavares 'deal could come off' after Arsenal transfer update from broadcaster - pundit
Kevin Phillips fears Arsenal will lose Nuno Tavares if Manchester City table a concrete bid for him next year.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner is adamant the 21-year-old “will want to go” if the Premier League champions come knocking.
Tavares has impressed since joining the Gunners in an £8million deal from Benfica in July.
According to ESPN (12 December), his form has alerted the attention of Manchester City who have sent scouts to watch the left-back.
City are said to be in the market for a left-sided full-back with Oleksandr Zinchenko the only specialist left-bacl currently available for the club.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Phillips said: “This deal could possibly come off.

“Kieran Tierney is going to be first choice left-back even though he has struggled with injuries.
“I have said all along, you need two specialist full-backs for each side in your squad. I would be reluctant to let Tavares go if I was Arteta because you want competition in that area.
“Tavares is a fabulous player and you don’t get linked with Manchester City unless you are.
“From the player’s point of view though, he will want to go. You would if Manchester City came knocking.
“It is hard to say when it is Arsenal because they are a huge club but right now, Manchester City are far superior.”
