Eintracht Frankfurt have leapfrogged Rangers and Celtic to close in on the signing of River Plate striker Santos Borre, Football Insider has learned.

The two Glasgow giants have registered their interest in landing the Colombia international after his contract expires today.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt have agreed personal terms with Borre, 25, as he targets a move this week.

The four-times Colombia international has been seeking a lucrative four-year contract from his next employers.

His salary demands have been a stumbling block to Rangers and Celtic, who are both in the market for a new centre-forward.

Frankfurt, who finished fifth in last season's Bundesliga, have stolen a march on the Scottish duo as well as Premier League clubs in the Borre race.

He has accepted their contract offer and a deal could be finalised by the end of this week if final details can be agreed.

Borre is a top target for European clubs as he is available on a free transfer from 1st July, when his contract at River Plate expires.

The Colombian has previously had a two-year spell at Atletico Madrid but he did not play for them during that time.

Borre instead spent those two seasons out on loan, at Villarreal and Deportivo Cali before signing for River Plate in 2017.

At the Argentine outfit, the centre-forward has a stellar record.

He scored 22 goals from 42 matches in 2019-20 and his 146 appearances for the Argentine club have yielded an impressive 56 goals.
