Darren Bent believes Celtic are the favourites to sign Brighton defender Shane Duffy ahead of the likes of West Ham and West Brom.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Premier League striker suggests the lure of European football, as well as his pre-existing allegiances to the Bhoys, will swing things in Neil Lennon’s favour.

As revealed by Football Insider, the 28-year-old centre-back is keen to join Celtic on loan after holding talks with the Glasgow giants but his wages could prove to be a major hurdle.

Duffy is a known Celtic supporter and, as reported by Belfast Live, has spoken out about his desire to possibly play for the Hoops in the future.

Bent believes that everything is in the Bhoys’ favour to get the Republic of Ireland nternational on board and insists he can see a move happening this summer.

Asked if things were in Celtic’s favour, Bent told Football Insider: “100 per cent because you’re talking about Champions League football as well, so yeah, 100 per cent.

“West Ham are a good club but if it’s your boyhood club and you’ve supported them as a child, the opportunity to go there, you know you’re going to win things there and also as well there’s the carrot of Champions League football.

“That’s a destination I can see him going to, if that’s legitimate and there’s a chance, that’s where he’s going to be heading.”

Duffy has fallen down the pecking order under Brighton boss Graham Potter and was in and out of the Seagulls’ side last season.

Lennon currently has Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer as his first-choice centre-back pairing at Parkhead.
