'There Isn't Anyone Like Him At Everton...They're Going To Miss Him' - Bent drops verdict

There isn’t “anyone” like Abdoulaye Doucoure at Everton — they’re “going to miss him” as he serves his one-match suspension against Leicester City.

So says Darren Bent, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Frenchman picked up his fifth booking of the season in the 2-1 win against Wolves last Tuesday, ruling him out for the Toffees’ next Premier League game.

Doucoure has started every one of Everton’s 17 league matches this season.

With this in mind, manager Carlo Ancelotti told Everton’s official website that he is relatively unphased by the 28-year-old’s enforced absence: “I think he deserves to rest, so it’s not so bad.”

But Bent believes that Everton will suffer without Doucoure in the team, revealing that he has been an admirer of the midfielder’s all-action approach since he first saw him in the Premier League.

He told Football Insider: “There isn’t anyone like him at Everton. He gets forward, he gets a lot of praise for his box-to-box work.

“He works hard, he’s quick, he’s powerful. They’re going to miss him massively.

“He’s a top, top player. I’ve always liked him since he was at Watford. When they brought him in I thought, ‘Yeah, that’s a proper signing.'”

Doucoure has been hugely impressive since signing for Everton in the summer in a deal thought to be worth around £20million.

Prior to that, he had spent four seasons in the Premier League with Watford, making 129 appearances and scoring 17 goals.

In other news, a top pundit has labelled recent comments by Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands regarding transfer strategy as “very strange.”
