'Things have to change' – Sky pundit says Leeds must have clearout, highlights one star for chop

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has said that Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom must view the rest of this season as a “transitional” period working towards a fresh promotion push next campaign.
He also claimed that Heckingbottom must take the lead with summer signings, must change the team up and pointed to the defence as the team’s biggest failing.
Within that he highlighted the lack of authority from goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, who has come under intense criticism for his performances over the past few weeks.
Writing in his column in the Yorkshire Evening Post he said that Heckingbottom and Leeds must look to midweek opponents Derby who are flying high this season.
Manager Gary Rowett took the job in March last year when Derby were also-rans in the Championship.
Derby backed him with cash to sign Curtis Davies, Tom Huddlestone, Tom Lawrence, Joe Ledley and latterly Cameron Jerome and they’re now on course for a play-off place at the minimum.
“At Leeds, Paul needs the same support,” Prutton wrote.
“I’m not saying he should have sole responsibility for transfers because Leeds, with Victor Orta as director of football, don’t work like that anymore and Paul said himself that he lacked the right infrastructure for recruitment at Barnsley, but I’m absolutely sure he needs to lead on signings to some degree.
“A new regime have settled in and we’ve seen teething problems. To my mind certain things have to change if the team and the squad are to improve significantly.
“Watching the draw at Derby on Wednesday night, nothing stood out more than the defence.
“It’s not just about ability. It’s about responsibility too. When the ball was pumped into their box at the death, who in there stepped forward and said ‘I’m going to make sure I smash this 40 yards up the pitch’? Where was the goalkeeper coming and cleaning three or four players out?”
