Thomas Frank has already given verdict on Tottenham target who could threaten Dominic Solanke’s future

Dominic Solanke should feel extremely insecure as his struggles at Tottenham continue to be exacerbated by his injury woes.

Richarlison has led the line for Tottenham in the former Bournemouth man’s absence, having not featured since the 2-0 win over Man City all the way back in August of this season.

He has made just three appearances during 2025-26 after notching 24 goal contributions in the entirety of last term, becoming a key figure for Ange Postecoglou before his eventual demise.

Football Insider understands that Thomas Frank no longer fancies Solanke, and that is extremely likely to be about the centre-forward’s continuous absence since the manager’s arrival this summer.

It appears that Spurs are already considering a move for another striker.

Tottenham could look to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta

Sources told Football Insider earlier this month that Crystal Palace could be forced to cash in on Jean-Philippe Mateta, and several clubs are likely to queue up in the race for the Frenchman’s signature.

Now, Football Insider understands that Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in the Palace star, with a new striker set to be on Frank’s wishlist in the coming transfer windows.

Of course, signing the 28-year-old, who has seven goals in 15 games this season, in January would be an extremely difficult task, especially given his contract at Selhurst Park, but he could be a long-term target.

And based on what the Lilywhites’ manager has already said about the France international, Solanke might already be fearing for his future in North London despite arriving just two summers ago.

What has Thomas Frank said about a possible replacement for Dominic Solanke?

Speaking back in January during his time at the Gtech Community Stadium, Frank spoke glowingly about Mateta, and this will only strike more fear into his current striker’s heart.

“Mateta, I really, really like him. I don’t know how many coaches he’s had at Crystal Palace, at least two. Maybe he just needed that coach at the right time and a system that fitted him,” he said.

“That number nine role with two tens under him fits him fantastic,” and with the likes of Xavi Simons, James Maddison, and Dejan Kulusevski at the club, albeit they’re not all available, he could thrive in North London.

Spurs could face a few more months of frustrations with their current squad, but with Frank clearly eager to improve the forward line, Solanke could quite easily be replaced by Mateta in the future.
