'Time for Levy to pay' - Tottenham fans react to Alderweireld Twitter message

By Amir Mir

Toby Alderweireld posted his goodbyes to White Hart Lane in a Twitter message – and Tottenham fans have responded by urging him to sign a new contract.

The 28-year-old was part of the Spurs team that recorded a 2-1 win against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Despite a nervous ending, Alderweireld and his teammates helped the fans give their old stadium the best send off by securing all three points.

After the match, Alderweireld stated that it was an “honour” to play at White Hart Lane as Spurs now prepare to move into new surroundings.

Supporters were hoping that their Belgian centre-back will be with the club when they temporarily move into Wembley next term.

Added to that, another fan stated that it is time for chairman Daniel Levy to pay Alderweireld for what he is worth.

He has been a key figure for the club, helping them boast the best defensive record during this campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side secured the runners-up spot following their win against United at the weekend.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Over the course of the season, Alderweireld has played 37 games in all competitions, helping his team secure 19 clean sheets during those games.

He has played 28 Premier League matches this term but he missed approximately six weeks of action from November after injuring his knee.

Two matches of the season remain for Pochettino’s side, starting with a clash against Leicester on Thursday which will be followed up by a trip to already-relegated Hull on the last day of the season.
