'Time is up' for Dele Alli and he could transfer from Tottenham in January after Conte reveal - pundit

Dele Alli will be sold in 2022 if he cannot grasp his “opportunity” at Tottenham under new manager Antonio Conte, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted it was up to the 25-year-old whether he puts in the “hard work” needed to return to the Spurs fold.

Conte, speaking in a press conference before the Premier League clash against Everton last week (November 5th), insisted he will give Alli the “possibility to show his talent”.

The Italian called on the England international and his fellow fringe stars to show they “deserve the chance to play”.

Alli enjoyed a brief resurgence under departed boss Nuno Espirito Santo but fell out of favour for the last four games of his tenure.

Whelan insisted the narrative surrounding the midfielder is becoming ‘like Groundhog Day’, and urged him to “grasp” this latest opportunity.

“It’s up to Dele Alli – he has to put the hard work in now to rekindle his career and produce the quality we know he has,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Managers have come and gone and tried to bring out the Dele of old, it hasn’t worked. Everyone plays off a clean slate when a new manager comes in.

“He will be given the opportunity, but he just has to grasp it.

“I think it’s time to let him go – either in January or the end of the season because he’s had a number of opportunities now.

“It’s starting to feel a little bit like Groundhog Day. It’s entirely up to him to show the effort to try and reclaim his place in this side.”
