De Vrij tipped to be 'seen in a Tottenham shirt soon' after pre-January update - pundit

Kevin Campbell has tipped Tottenham to sign Stefan de Vrij in January if the Inter Milan defender is viewed as a priority by Antonio Conte.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker claimed Conte, 52, is “very ruthless” in the transfer market.

This site revealed on November 2nd that Conte wants to sign De Vrij, 29, when the window re-opens in January.

Tottenham’s new manager has held discussions with managing director Fabio Paratici about recruiting an A-list centre-half.

De Vrij‘s contract at Inter Milan expires in the summer of 2023.

When asked by Football Insider if the Netherlands international would be a smart signing for Spurs, Campbell said: “Do they need another centre-half?

“They have got numbers back there.

“Conte will have his own mind of what he wants to do and how he wants to play. They key is signing players who are going to make this team better. They don’t need bodies.

“If De Vrij is the one Conte’s wants, Spurs will go and get him. Conte is very ruthless like that. I’m sure we’ll see him in a Spurs shirt soon.”

Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies are all capable of playing in a back three under Conte.

Romero, Dier and Davies started the Italian manager’s first game against Vitesse Arnhem.

In other news, a pundit cannot believe the ‘hogwash’ Conte is spouting in his first week in charge of Tottenham.
