Tom Cairney shares Leeds Twitter message that will twist the knife for fans
By Harvey Byrne
Former midfielder Tom Cairney has twisted the knife into the Leeds fans on Twitter after Fulham confirmed their place in the Championship play-offs on Sunday.
Both the Cottagers and Leeds were going into their final games of the season knowing that Fulham had all but secured their spot in the top six with a 13-goal swing needed for Garry Monk’s side to break into the top six.
However, nothing was confirmed until after Fulham defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at Hillsborough on Sunday, while Leeds were held to a 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium against relegated side Wigan.
The season’s climax brought an end to a miserable run of form for Leeds, which saw them pick up just one league win from their previous eight Championship matches, while Fulham enjoyed a much better run with six wins from eight encounters.
The contrasting forms saw the Yorkshire club fall out of the play-offs after spending the majority of the season in the promotion spots and now Cairney, who was released by Leeds as a youngster has dug the knife in further via his personal Twitter account by stating his team were 11 points behind Monk’s side during the last international break in March.
Play offs here we come! We was 11 points behind Leeds before the last international break ???? we've been in amazing form proud of the boys! ????????

Cairney has previously had altercations with the Leeds fan base on social media and after he scored in the 1-1 draw back in March he posted that they had “no class” which made his strike sweeter.
The 26-year-old will now be aiming to help Fulham make their return to the Premier League via the play-offs, while Leeds will be preparing for another season in the English second tier where they will be hoping to progress from this campaign’s seventh finish.
In other Leeds news, a club fitness chief has dropped a strong hint that a midfielder is leaving the club.
