Cascarino: Everton should sign this Premier League striker to replace Lukaku

By Alex Stevens

Tony Cascarino has urged Everton to consider West Brom spearhead Salomon Rondon as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

Pundit Cascarino has been blown away by how much Rondon has improved since his £12million move to the Hawthorns from Zenit St Petersburg in the summer of 2015.

The striker has established himself as the first-choice front man for Tony Pulis’ side following a string of impressive performances.

Rondon did not score in West Brom’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday but has netted four times in 15 Premier League appearances this season, as well as providing two assists in the competition.

“One of Pulis’s best achievements is turning Salomon Rondon into a real force,” Cascarino wrote in the Times. “The £12million striker is perhaps the most selfless forward in the League — he never stops running, puts defenders under pressure and has chipped in with four goals this season.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if a team like Everton (should they lose Romelu Lukaku) consider signing him.”

In total, the Venezuela international has scored 14 goals and provided six assists in 56 matches for West Brom.

It is a strike rate that pales in comparison with Lukaku, who is fourth in the Premier League goal charts with nine this season following his double in Everton’s 3-2 defeat to West Brom on Saturday.

His Everton record of 70 goals in 142 appearances has prompted admiring glances from European heavyweights, with his former club Chelsea strongly linked with a concerted move for him in the summer.

There is a growing sense that Lukaku will quit Goodison Park at the end of the season, which will pave the way for Everton to recruit a new spearhead.

In other Everton news, fans panned international as a liability after his display in the team’s 3-2 defeat to Watford on Saturday.
