Steve Bruce’s side were hoping for a promising season and seemed prepared to battle for promotion with a host of new signings made over the summer transfer window.
It was expected that new captain John Terry’s Premier League experience from Chelsea would help the club’s chances, but it hasn’t proven successful so far.
In addition to the skipper, Bruce also recruited Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady on a permanent basis in addition to loan stars Sam Johnstone, Robert Snodgrass and Josh Onomah.
