The quality of Thiago Alcantara could give Liverpool the edge in what is going to be “one hell of a battle” against Manchester United.
That is the view of former Everton striker Kevin Campbell who, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, admitted he was finding it difficult to predict a winner for Sunday’s clash.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s table toppers travel to Anfield looking to extend the gap over their historic rivals to six points.
The Red Devils have come out of nowhere in the race for the title and a win at Anfield will have United fans dreaming of ending their wait for the Premier League trophy.
Campbell has admitted he has not been too impressed with Liverpool’s performances this season and insisted they had made some “elementary mistakes”.
However, the former Toffees captain could not help but herald the quality of Thiago and suggested the midfield ace could make the difference for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
“Thiago is a top, top, top player and he will help Liverpool but they have not been playing well at all recently, he told Football Insider.
“I know they beat the kids at Villa but that is expected. In the league, they have made some elementary mistakes.
“They have not been as clinical as they once were. When you are not clinical, you leave teams in the game and that is dangerous.
“It is going to be a hell of a battle because there is a lot at stake this time. Both sides could win this one. Top-of-the-table clash, this is what it is all about.”
All eyes will be on Anfield this weekend as the title race is sure to take another dramatic turn in this most dramatic of seasons.
Liverpool need a morale-boosting win following their recent poor league form and there is no better way for them to show their title credentials than with a win over Manchester United.
