Jose Mourinho will prioritise defensive signings at Tottenham this summer as Giovani Lo Celso prepares to “explode” into Premier League stardom.
That is according to Alex Bruce, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about how the 24-year-old is in the same bracket as Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in terms of importance to Spurs.
It is understood that Spurs have set their sights primarily on loans, frees and cut-price deals and that initial moves have been made over new signings.
With Lo Celso looking like a mainstay in midfield for the foreseeable future, Bruce suggests that defensive reinforcements will be Mourinho’s priority this summer.
Bruce told Football Insider: “He has looked very impressive, he’s a good player and when you’ve got players like that you do want to build your squad around them.
“I’m sure he’ll be wanting to bring in a few more additions as well to add to the likes of Lo Celso, Harry Kane, Son, Dele Alli.
“I think he’ll be looking to strengthen in defensive areas, I think that’s one area that he thinks to really strengthen and I’m sure he’ll do that given the right player becomes available.”
Lo Celso, who initially joined Spurs on loan last summer, has played 30 times for the club across all competitions last season.
The Lilywhites turned the midfielder’s temporary stay permanent back in January for a fee of £27million, that was in addition to the initial £15m loan price.
In other Tottenham news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been given big hope of signing 26-year-old who is desperate to join them.
