Young attacker Anthony Georgiou has agreed to sign a new contract with Tottenham, according to a club insider.

Lilywhite Rose, a reliable source of information about Spurs’ academy, claimed on their Twitter account that Georgiou, 20, had penned a fresh two year deal which the club has the option to extend by a further 12 months if they wish.

Georgiou is an attack-minded winger who plays predominantly on the left and is very highly rated by the Spurs youth set-up.

He earned his one and only appearance in the senior squad last week when he came off the bench in the 3-0 win over APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League group stages.

The winger came on in the 84th minute to replace Moussa Sissoko in what was a very routine win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side after Harry Kane bagged a hat-trick.

Georgiou has been ever-present in Premier League 2 over the past couple of seasons, but he has had his playing time in it reduced this term, having only played in two of the six fixtures.

Football Insider Verdict

Georgiou is a very promising talent and Pochettino clearly sees his qualities having handed him a spot in their Champions League squad last week as well as playing him in friendly games across the summer, including the one against Serie A champions Juventus at Wembley. This new deal will be a massive boost to the youngster as it shows that the club still has plans for him in the future – or that they just want to make sure he doesn’t leave on a free. Georgiou’s path to the first-team is blocked by a good amount of talent in Pochettino’s squad. However a coupe of injuries may see the youngster have the chance to step up in the Premier League soon.

In other Tottenham news, Kane has given his backing to this young team-mate who is coming under-fire.
