Tottenham backed to sign £50.9m-rated colossus in January as Vlahovic talks get underway - pundit
Noel Whelan has backed Tottenham to strike a deal to sign Fiorentina striker Duhan Vlahovic either in January or next summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker suggested the 6ft 3in (Transfermarkt) 21-year-old would be the perfect cover and competition to Harry Kane.
As reported by CalcioMercato.it (7th October), Tottenham are in talks with the player’s entourage over a potential move to north London.
The same news outlet claim Fiorentina value the Serbia international at £50.9million-plus (€60million).
Vlahovic is contracted to La Viola until 2023 but has refused to sign a new and improved deal with the club.
In a statement on the club’s website, owner Rocco Commisso confirmed they had tabled an offer that would have made the striker the best-paid player in Fiorentina’s history.

Whelan insists Spurs need a new striker to help cover Kane.
He suggested Vlahovic’s physicality and goalscoring record could make him the ideal candidate.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “They need to strength in depth in that position. I don’t think it’s been any secret.
“They’ve had people in on loan, it has not worked out. They have gone back and Harry Kane has been your main man. He will be your main man but you need options.
“One thing they don’t have as an option is a target man at Tottenham. Someone that commands that presence up top, can bring players in from wide areas with a different kind of strength.
“At six foot three, he’s a big player that from wide areas you can get crosses in to. You’ve got some great wingers at Tottenham. Maybe they haven’t got the height that you would want in the box.
“He’d be a different kind of player to Harry Kane and I think sometimes you need that option. His goal record speaks for itself.
“Whether he can do it over here in England straight away, that remains to be seen.
“But there’s no doubt his pedigree says that he’s a good player. He knows where the back of the net is.”
Vlahovic has scored 31 goals in 85 Serie A appearances and has 10 Serbia caps under his belt.
