Paul Robinson has claimed Sevilla defender Jules Kounde would be a "much better option" for Tottenham than Conor Coady.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one heaped praise on the "world-class" Kounde, 22, amid reported interest from Spurs in his signature.

According to Fabrizio Romano (30th June), Tottenham are in talks with the France international's agents regarding a possible move to north London.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are in the market for centre-halves this summer with two likely to arrive before the transfer window shuts.

Robinson claimed the signing of Kounde would fill him with "optimism and anticipation" heading into the 2021-22 campaign.

"Kounde would be a much better option than Conor Coady," he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

"He is the world-class centre-half that Spurs so desperately need.

"To be honest, I think Spurs need two or three centre-halves because they are nowhere near good enough in that area right now.

"A player the calibre of Kounde, a top-class international centre-half, would be a very welcome addition indeed. That would be a signing that would fill me with optimism and anticipation for the new season.

"There is a lot of questions and a lot of uncertainty at Spurs going into next season but Kounde is a signing who would excite fans."
