Tottenham could be signing 'next Ivan Perisic' after news from Spain - expert

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham not to make a move for Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one claimed the 29-year-old is not needed because he is similar to Ivan Perisic.

According to Mundo Deportivo, via The Express (7 November), Spurs are interested in signing Carrasco in the January transfer window.

Atletico Madrid are said to be willing to sell the Belgium international as they look to raise much-needed funds.

Carrasco will have 18 months left on his contract with the La Liga side in the new year.

When asked by Football Insider if Carrasco would be a welcome addition to Antonio Conte’s side, Robinson said: “Carrasco is another who can play on the wing or left wing-back.

“He is not dissimilar to Ivan Perisic. They have similar attributes.

“Look, Spurs do not have a problem down the left-hand side in my opinion. That is why I wouldn’t go for Carrasco.

“Perisic and [Ryan] Sessegnon have done well this season. Sessegnon has stepped up to the mark.

“There is other areas of the pitch where they need to concentrate on recruitment. The left-hand side is good enough for the time being.”

Carrasco has contributed two goals and two assists in 19 appearances across all competitions this season.

The winger has 59 caps for Belgium and is heading to this winter’s World Cup.
