Kieran Maguire: Tottenham delighted by latest takeover news amid £4bn 'leak'
Tottenham will be delighted that the Chelsea takeover took so long to complete – and it also helps them establish their own value.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ own future takeover ambitions.
As reported by The Athletic on 4 February, the ENIC group are open to offers to sell the north London club but have not yet received a suitable bid.
The impasse in the Chelsea takeover saga meanwhile has finally been broken, with American investor Todd Boehly set to take the reins.
Per the Daily Mail on Saturday (7 May), the deal to take over from Roman Abramovich has gone through at a price of £4.25billion.
Maguire explains that Spurs can now use the price, which was reported in several “leaks” in recent weeks, to benchmark their own value.

“I don’t think they will have been that bothered about whether the deal actually went through or not,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“In some respects, the longer it takes for the deal to go through, the better it is for Spurs because it delays Chelsea’s plans for the summer.
“It is clear by now what the going rate is. That has been established from all the leaks that we’ve seen.
“Therefore, I think Spurs can benchmark against this £4.25billion regardless of whether or how long it takes the contract to be signed.”
Tottenham’s revenue for 2020-21 stood at £361.9million, while Chelsea’s turnover totalled £434.9m.
Antonio Conte’s side’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday (7 May) leaves them one point outside the top four with three games to go.
