Tottenham expert 'almost certain' Giovani Lo Celso will join Villarreal amid '£70m' claim

Villarreal will use their Champions League prize money to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

A recruitment source told Football Insider (14 April) that Unai Emery’s side are opening talks with Spurs about signing the midfielder permanently.

Villarreal were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Liverpool this week (3 May) but Wenham claims they have already earned enough to sign Lo Celso.

“We are going to be spending a fair chunk of money before we even kick a ball next season because we have to make the signings of Romero and Kulusevski permanent,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Both are absolute no brainers. The offset to that is I expect Villarreal to come in for Lo Celso.

“People are saying they can’t afford him but we got plenty of money when we got to the Champions League final.

“They made the semis and will get a very decent chunk of broadcast money and prize money.

“They will be getting £60million or £70million from that alone. I can’t see them struggling to come up with the £35million it will take to sign Lo Celso, I’m almost certain that will happen.

“So there is business that will definitely be done this summer, then we need to see how much we have left to spend and where we need to strengthen.”

Lo Celso has made 18 appearances since joining the Spanish side on loan in January.

He scored one goal and assisted twice but failed to complete a 90-minute match in the Premier League in the first half of the campaign.
