Tottenham expected to table Antonio Conte new deal after journalist's update - expert

Paul Robinson has suggested Tottenham will be trying to tie Antonio Conte down to a new deal behind the scenes.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said the club will want Conte, 53, on a long-term contract for “financial security.”

Conte has entered the final 12 months of his deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

According to Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia on Twitter (14 September), the Spurs boss is unlikely to renew his contract with the north London club.

Bargiggia suggested Conte wants to return to Juventus at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Massimiliano Allegri’s position in Turin is uncertain after a 1-0 loss to Monza on Sunday (18 September).

When asked by Football Insider if Spurs would be actively trying to get Conte on new terms, Robinson said: “Contracts are not worth the paper they are written on when it comes to trying to keep managers.

“If a club wants your manager they will happily pay the price.

“What a new deal would provide though is financial security for the club. That is why I think they will be in talks with Conte over a new deal. The club would get more money if Conte was tied to a long-term contract.

“If a so-called bigger fish comes for your manager they normally take him. You only have to look at [Graham] Potter and Chelsea. It happens regardless of whether the manager has five months or five years on his contract.

“It just depends changes the amount of compensation. There is not a lot you can do if one of the biggest clubs in Europe wants your manager.”

In other news, Robinson has claimed Tottenham are set to benefit from a ‘huge’ Eric Dier development.
