Tottenham expert rages at Ashley Young amid fears Harry Kane 'out for a while' and needs surgery

Ashley Young should have been sent off as his Aston Villa side lost 4-0 to Tottenham on Saturday.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

In Tottenham’s win on Saturday (9 April), with 81 minutes on the clock, Young lunged at Kane as he ran towards the Aston Villa goal.

The 36-year-old got nowhere near the ball and scythed the England captain down, prompting an angry response from several Spurs players.

He was given a yellow card for his trouble but Wenham, and plenty of fans on social media, think the punishment should have been harsher.

“Absolutely shocking,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“That’s exactly the type of tackle Fabian Delph did on him a few years ago.

“That one led to so many injury problems and ankle surgery, I hope that’s not the case this time. I was really, really angry about that.

“It was so unnecessary. Ashley knows Harry from England duty and he worked with Conte at Inter Milan.

“I just thought it was disgraceful, to be honest with you. A Kane injury now would really derail us.

“That is the kind of challenge that can leave a player on the sidelines for a while.

“It came when we were 4-0 up as well. It was very poor and he should have been sent off.

Kane failed to score in the game but provided two assists as Heung-Min Son scored a hat-trick.

Tottenham are next in action against Brighton on Saturday (16 April).
