Tottenham expert shares 'huge' Pau Torres claim after confirmed news

Tottenham could now press ahead with a deal for Pau Torres after a blow in the club’s bid for Alessandro Bastoni.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Football Insider has been told by a recruitment source (7 May) that Villarreal are expecting to cash in on Torres, 25, as he enters the final two years of his contract this summer.

It was claimed there is growing “confidence” at Tottenham, the source explained, that Torres could be signed for around the £45m mark.

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Bastoni’s agent, Tinti, claimed his client will be staying at Inter Milan after talks with the club’s board on 8 June.

When asked if Tottenham could now press ahead with a deal for Torres, Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “Possibly, I have seen some people seem unconvinced by Torres.

“Online I have seen stats guys say he maybe isn’t physically strong enough for the Premier league but personally, whenever I have seen him play he has looked very, very good.

“In a Europa League game against Man United, I was blown away by him. On the ball, his leadership skills, he looked a really good player.

“He regularly starts for Spain as well so if Conte and Paratici want him, who are we to question them?

“Torres would be a huge upgrade for our defence.

Torres made 47 appearances for Villarreal during the 2021-22 season.

He scored six goals.
