Tottenham are considering a move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to a report.
The Sun claim that the Portuguese playmaker, who has made just one start out of his three appearances this season, will be allowed to leave by the European giants during the January transfer window, with a £20million price tag placed on his head, although they are also said to be open to a potential loan move.
Since joining from fellow La Liga side Valencia the 24-year-old has gone on to make 50 appearances for the Catalan side, although the majority of those have come from the substitutes bench.
The attacking midfielder is said to be keen to depart the Nou Camp in a bid to retain his place in the national side, as he looks to add to the 26 caps he has earned for Portugal since his debut in 2014.
Football Insider verdict
It is interesting that Mauricio Pochettino is still in the market for another attacking midfielder, despite having the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min at his disposal. Gomes has struggled with the weight of the Barcelona shirt, and has managed to score just three goals and contribute three assists during his time at the Nou Camp. Whether he has what it takes to compete in the Premier League should be a concern for Pochettino, especially if the Argentinian manager hopes to push for the title once again this season. As such, a loan spell might work out best for all parties.
