'Sign him up', 'Immense' - Tottenham fans react to offer reportedly ready for defender
Tottenham fans been reacting on Twitter after it was reported that the club is readying a new deal for defender Jan Vertonghen.
Football.London claims that Vertonghen, 30, will be offered a “bumper deal” by Spurs as they hope to wrap up an agreement before the start of next season.
It is understood that there is no option to trigger an extension in the Belgium international’s current deal, which expires next year, so they have moved to offer a new deal with Mauricio Pochettino seeing the centre-back as a mentor for the younger players in his squad.
With Toby Alderweireld set to exit this summer, Ajax wonderkid Matthjis de Ligt is said to be someone that Spurs are targetting to welcome to North London, and having Vertonghen around to help him with his development is key in the eyes of Pochettino.
Vertonghen has made 43 appearances across all competitions this season and has missed just one Premier League fixture due to an ankle knock he suffered in training.
Spurs fans are delighted to see that the former Ajax ace will be rewarded for his fine form over the summer and took to social media to react.

And if Vertonghen asks for the same amount Toby is asking for because he is worth that too btw?? #THFC https://t.co/ujOuQLv6Pe

Discussions surrounding Toby and Danny Rose well known. The club has known and worked on these for at least a year.
If Dembele is looking to move to China, a bargain bucket replacement for him won't be good enough. Tying Eriksen, Vertonghen, Dele, Son down pre WC urgent #THFC pic.twitter.com/g94mN3wJ8q

He’s one of the few that deserves a new contract. At the moment, I can’t think of many more that do unless we win something. Do you think that is a fair point?
