So, there you have it.
Roberto Martinez was telling the truth when he said that Toby Alderweireld was completely fit and ready to play for his country.
Not only did he start but he played the full 90 minutes and quickly shrugged off any rust he might have had from not playing for Tottenham.
It’s a curious affair that will come to some sort of conclusion on Sunday.
If Alderweireld doesn’t start for Tottenham, or at the very least start on the bench, Tottenham fans can probably safely assume that his career in north London is over.
Straight after the match, the centre-back posted a message up on Twitter which attracted the attention of Tottenham fans.

He celebrated helping to keep a clean sheet for a Belgium side prepping for the World Cup finals this summer with a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
The Belgium team reads like a best of the Premier League, with unbelievable talent throughout.
Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Mousa Dembele, and Jan Vertonghen, Vincent Kompany and Alderweireld in the back three.
It’s a ridiculous team.
All Tottenham’s attention was centred on Alderweireld though, with his contract wrangling ongoing.
And fans were concerned about Sunday and whether he’d play for Spurs or not against Chelsea.
Here are the best reactions to Alderweireld’s message after playing he full 90 minutes for his country.
See you against Chelsea legend.
