Tottenham fans took to Twitter to criticise Victor Wanyama for his shocking display in the team's 2-0 league defeat at Liverpool on Saturday evening.

Spurs were blown away by a sensational Liverpool display in the first half of the clash at Anfield as two Sadio Mane goals put the home side in control.

Jurgen Klopp's team then shut up shop in the second half as Tottenham failed to mount any semblance of a fightback.

Few Spurs players came out of the match with any credit as they struggled to cope with the expectation that came with their position as the best placed of the teams to challenge runaway leaders Chelsea.

Wanyama has been a mainstay of the midfield since his £12million transfer from Southampton last summer but he had one of his worst matches in a Spurs shirt.

Supporters took to social media to express their disappointment at the Kenya international's performance, although many accepted that it was a rare off day.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Wanyama has started all 25 of Tottenham' Premier League matches this season as well as five of their six Champions League fixtures.

He has established an increasingly impressive central midfield partnership with Mousa Dembele but neither were able to exert any control in that area of the pitch against a rampant Liverpool.

The result leaves just a point gap in the table between Spurs in second position and Jurgen Klopp's side in fourth.
