Aston Villa starlet Jack Grealish has given Tottenham Hotspur a huge boost by deciding to leave his boyhood club this summer, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that Spurs are leading the race for the 22-year-old’s signature and are now on alert, with Grealish expecting the north London club to come in with a bid.
The newspaper report that Grealish would be in line to land a five-year deal at Tottenham which would see his £20,000-a-week wages increase massively.
It is said that Grealish has come round to the idea of leaving his beloved Villa amid the club’s financial woes, with the youngster harbouring top-flight and international ambitions.
Football Insider verdict:
It has looked likely that Grealish would leave Aston Villa ever since their loss in the play-off final to Fulham. Whether it was to be his choice or not, the fact is that the youngster was always unlikely to stay after that devastating defeat. Grealish is one of the club’s most-valuable assets, and their failed financial push to get back into the Premier League leaves them needing to make some cash. Selling players is an easy way to do that, and they will now be looking to get the best fee possible for the dynamic attacking midfielder. Negotiations with Tottenham, should they materialise, will not be easy by any means, with Daniel Levy sure to try and exploit the Villans’ dire financial situation. The Midlands club will surely however have to settle for much less than their reported £40million valuation, with no club in their right mind to pay that kind of fee.
