Andreas Schjelderup's World Cup performances analysed amid Tottenham 'hunt'
Andreas Schjelderup has emerged onto Tottenham's radar after being one of Norway's top performers at the World Cup.
Roberto De Zerbi is orchestrating an overhaul of his Tottenham squad after they narrowly avoided relegation last season.
He is yet to bolster his attacking ranks as defensive and midfield arrivals are prioritised, but Spurs are in the market for some new forwards to increase their firepower for next term.
His strong performances at the World Cup are sure to impress Spurs supporters ahead of a possible move to North London.
Andreas Schjelderup proved his quality at the World Cup with Norway
Schjelderup earned a place as a regular in Norway's side at the World Cup after registering 11 goals and six assists in 46 games for Benfica last season.
He made late cameos in their first two group games against Iraq and Senegal, then was handed a start against France on 26 June.
Despite the 4-1 loss, Schjelderup notched a well-crafted assist, took eight touches in the Les Bleus box, made six recoveries and drew a foul.
The 22-year-old followed that up later in the tournament with a strong showing against Brazil, as he crossed well for Erling Haaland's opener and also assisted his second strike with an accurate pass into his feet.
Schjelderup ended that game with 93 per cent pass accuracy, one shot on target and five recoveries.
As many Spurs fans may already know, it was his goal that opened the scoring as Norway were beaten 2-1 by England in the quarter-finals last week.
There may have been an air of fortune about the strike, but Schjelderup still showed great quality to cut onto his left foot and beat Jordan Pickford with a vicious shot onto the right post.
He won six of his eight ground duels against the Three Lions before coming off in the 68th minute, bringing his stellar tournament to an end.
Mathys Tel exit could open squad space for Schjelderup
Tel struggled to nail down a regular starting spot for Spurs last season on either the left wing or as a centre-forward.
He did impress towards the end of the campaign under Roberto De Zerbi, but could depart the club this summer just a year after joining permanently from Bayern Munich.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Tel could push to leave Spurs if he feels like he will not get ample game time next season.
His potential exit would free up space on the left wing, with Schjelderup possibly set to fill that gap if Tottenham can agree a deal.
