Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal to sign Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham this summer.

The Sweden international is keen to make the move to the City Ground, with the Tricky Trees reportedly preparing a £45million bid.

Tottenham are hoping to hold out for £50m for the 20-year-old who joined from Djurgarden in 2024 for around £8.5m.

Bergvall is under contract until 2031 but hopes a move to Nottingham Forest will guarantee him more playing time amid the influx of arrivals in North London.

Tottenham have signed Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes for a combined £185m this summer, and may not be done yet.

After the exit of Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City for £116m, Nottingham Forest are keen to sign a replacement.

Ange Postecoglou to be fuming with Lucas Bergvall developments

The summer of 2024 saw the arrivals of two highly-rated 18-year-old midfielders, Bergvall and Archie Gray.

And in Ange Postecoglou, they had a manager who trusted them wholeheartedly and was keen to see them develop.

Gray made 46 appearances across all competitions in his first campaign, featuring in the centre of defence for much of the campaign amid a defensive crisis.

Bergvall made 45, and began to show his huge talent in the second half of the season.

Speaking in January 2025, Postecoglou said: "I'm so happy they're at our football club and you know, in two or three years' time, I just pray to God I'm the beneficiary of their talent, mate, because if somebody else is getting it, I won't be happy.”

Unfortunately, it appears that the Australian will not be happy after all, especially if Tottenham sell both players this summer.

Postecoglou's harsh sacking saw Thomas Frank arrive and opt against utilising the youngsters in the same way his predecessor had.

The Dane's eventual replacement, Roberto De Zerbi, has not moved to correct that situation, and it will likely mean the exit of, at least, Bergvall.

Postecoglou hailed Bergvall

Bergvall progressed massively in his short time under Postecoglou, emerging among the most exciting young midfielders in the Premier League.

After the Australian was sacked, the Swede publicly thanked him for his help. Had he stayed on, the 20-year-old may well have continued in North London this summer.

"Lucas was great. He has been great but he has played a lot and we've just got to be mindful of that. He's becoming an important part of our team. I thought he made a real big impact when he came on," Postecoglou said in March 2025.

"Like I said we were sloppy when we were on the ball in the first half and he’s one who takes a bit more care with it. He's a technician and he carries the ball really well. I thought he and Sonny [Heung-min Son] made a really good impact when they came on."
