'Big problem' - De Zerbi and Unai Emery sack verdicts ahead of Tottenham vs Aston Villa

Roberto De Zerbi is far more likely to be sacked than Unai Emery as Tottenham Hotspur prepare to face Aston Villa.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the latter is "completely secure" in his role at Villa Park.

Both sides head into the clash on Saturday, 19 September, without victory, De Zerbi's side sitting two spots above the Villans, who are in 19th.

The two club's situations could not be more wildly different, given that the Lilywhites splashed over £300million on transfers, while Villa lost several big-name stars.

However, both are struggling to kick their 2026-27 campaigns off, and the duo must now meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before a three-week break.

De Zerbi has quickly become one of the favourites to be sacked in the Premier League already, and he is much more danger than his counterpart this weekend.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has suggested that Spurs' manager has a "big problem" if his team fall to defeat against the Villans.

"The problem is when you get into the sort of place they are right now, everything looks like a tricky game," he said.

"Villa at home, Villa's start is even worse; that actually should be a relatively easy game. But all of a sudden you think, well, they both need a win.

If the team gets a bad result tomorrow, immediately, the manager has got a big problem on his hands because that three-week break, if you go into that with a negative result, pressure is going to start to build.

"It's not going to build at Villa Park. Emery is completely secure, but it's definitely going to build at Tottenham if they get a bad result."

What are Unai Emery's chances of being sacked?

By no means is Emery completely untouchable. No Premier League manager is in this day and age.

One major bookmaker has the Spaniard priced at 10/1 to be the next Premier League manager sacked, with Michael Carrick currently the favourite.

The Manchester United boss is evens to be relieved of his duties, and the numbers would suggest that Emery will be given a chance to turn things around.

A win for Villa could see them move as far as 13th in the Premier League table, and pressure would instantly be relieved at Villa Park.
