De Zerbi has 'major' Tottenham problem which 'could get him sacked'
Roberto De Zerbi is set to remain in his position as Tottenham Hotspur manager for now but must address some major issues.
After the dramatic 1-1 draw against Man United last time out, thanks to a late goal despite being down to ten men, the manager is believed to have bought himself time.
However, Spurs suffered from the same issue they have been forced to deal with throughout their poor start to the season as they struggled to convert their chances.
Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Spurs' lack of goalscoring prowess is a "major problem" which De Zerbi must address quickly to keep his job.
Prior to the clash at Old Trafford, Spurs had scored just two goals in their opening five Premier League games, with both of those coming during the defeat to Aston Villa.
Should Spurs continue to struggle in front of goal as they did against Man United and in previous games this season, the De Zerbi could find himself out of the job.
Could Roberto De Zerbi be sacked by Tottenham?
Brown told Football Insider on 21 September that Tottenham are planning to stick by De Zerbi and believe he is the right man to turn around their recent fortunes.
Despite still not having won a game, there have been signs of improvement and impressive performances which have not matched up to their results so far.
Should those performances continue to end in poor results, however, then a decision may have to be made and De Zerbi must find a way to start winning games.
"It's fair to say Tottenham's results haven't matched their performances this season," Brown told Football Insider.
"They haven't played badly, we saw that against Man United where they were on top for the majority of the game, but ultimately they couldn't do enough to win it.
"Let's be fair, they still haven't won a Premier League game. That's not good enough no matter how good your performances may have been.
"Tottenham have a major problem when it comes to scoring goals, they create chances and they play positive football, but they can't put the ball in the back of the net.
"It sounds simple, but if you can't score goals then you're not going to win games, so it's something De Zerbi will have to address quickly.
"It's issues like that which could get him sacked, even if they would prefer to keep him around, because it's the results on the pitch which will decide his future."
How can Tottenham address their glaring weaknesses?
Tottenham's lack of attacking threat in front of goal comes amid ongoing frustrations about the options available to De Zerbi, particularly in terms of natural strikers.
Dominic Solanke is the only out-and-out centre-forward available, with Richarlison out of the boss' plans and Omar Marmoush not seen as a central striker.
As a result, Football Insider revealed on 22 September that Tottenham are planning to sign a new striker in the January transfer window to ease their attacking concerns.
Spurs are hoping to land a striker capable of hitting the ground running in the Premier League as they desperately scramble to address a major area of concern.
They are also prepared to move players on to fund the new sigining, after spending huge fees during the summer, as they aim to balance the books before bring in new players.
