Ex-Spurs scout names the only player in 'today's market' capable of replacing Harry Kane at Tottenham

The only way Tottenham Hotspur will be able to replace Harry Kane is by re-signing him from Bayern Munich.

That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 33-year-old left in 2023, joining the German giants in a £100million deal, and is yet to be replaced in North London.

And no wonder - Kane scored 30 goals in his final Premier League campaign, with only Erling Haaland having hit that once in his four seasons at Manchester City.

Since leaving, the England international has only grown more prolific, netting an astonishing 64 goals in just 56 games across all competitions last season.

It was also a strong World Cup for Kane, who scored six goals and became England's all-time leading scorer in the tournament, despite the disappointment of finishing third.

Harry Kane 'broke every record'

Tottenham have been attempting to replace Kane since he left in 2023. It was hoped that Dominic Solanke could play the role after he was signed in a £65m deal, but he has been plagued by injuries.

Even if the 28-year-old had stayed fit, he would be facing a thankless task attempting to replace Kane.

The Tottenham legend hit levels of consistent quality rarely seen in the history of the Premier League.

"I can remember seeing Harry Kane at Millwall as a young player who was struggling to get a game at Spurs. The places he went on loan, and especially Millwall, I think he's even been quoted as saying that was the biggest learning curve he ever had," King told Football Insider.

"You've not only got to up your performance,  you've also got to win the crowd over, even though you are on loan. And he'd done both. It was Kenny Jackett who brought him in. It made him grow up when he went to Millwall.

"No doubt about that. And you can say all the superlatives about him because he deserves it. He's been a model professional, hasn't he? Appearances, record goal scorer at Spurs.

"I mean, he broke every record. He's broken every record at Tottenham, which won't be broken again as far as I can see. Remember that his last two or three years at Tottenham, he was captain.

"And a very good one. So to replace him, looking at today's market, you can only replace Harry Kane with Harry Kane."

Would Kane ever return to Tottenham?

Kane has been linked to Tottenham several times since his exit, with the 33-year-old expected to still have a number of years in his legs.

But the striker has no intention on leaving Bayern yet, and is due to sign a new contract until 2029 this summer.

"I’m very happy in Bayern Munich. It’s not something I'm thinking about," Kane said when asked about a potential return to Tottenham.

"It’ll always be 'we' [with Tottenham], I spent my whole life there. I’m a fan of them & will always watch them & see how they’re doing. But for now, I’m loving it here."
