Harry Kane to 'return to Tottenham' and land unexpected new role - ex-Spurs scout

Harry Kane will make his emotional return to Tottenham Hotspur as a director or a club ambassador following his retirement.

That is according to experienced former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The striker spent nearly 20 years in North London before joining Bayern Munich in 2023 for around £86million.

Kane's contract at the Allianz Arena is set to expire next summer, but the forward is expected to sign a new deal despite interest from Barcelona.

There has been hopeful talk that the 32-year-old will return to Tottenham before his retirement, but that appears to be unlikely for now.

Kane scored 280 goals across 435 appearances for the Lilywhites, and has netted a staggering 146 in 147 games for Bayern.

There had been a time in which Kane was suffering regular major injuries, but he shook those off and has come into his prime in the last few years.

With his goal against Panama at the World Cup last week, the striker became England's highest-ever goal-scorer at World Cups, with 11.

And it would not be completely out of the question to suggest he could still be England's striker in 2030, given his incredible technical ability.

For Tottenham, their hopes of seeing Kane in the Tottenham shirt again in a competitive game likely now lie in the chance of a late-career loan, such as Gareth Bale had in 2020.

After he has hung up his boots is another question, however. "When he finishes, he won't have to worry about football," King told Football Insider.

"He won't have to worry about work. He's sensible. He's got an awful lot of money. The only thing that would draw him back in is seeing his name in the papers every day or having the smell of football.

"But when he retires, he can walk away from everything. It'd be funny if Tottenham took him back. I mean, that would certainly lighten the club up, because they'd love him back.

"If he goes back to Tottenham, which I think will happen, he'll come back as a director. If Harry would return back to Spurs in some capacity, I'd just put him on the board as an ambassador."

Unfinished business for Kane

There are likely just two ways Kane could be convinced to return to Tottenham before he retires.

One would be the chance to win a trophy with his boyhood club, after he left having never laid his hands on silverware.

The other would be to have a crack at Alan Shearer's Premier League goal record. When Kane left England, he left second in the all-time scoring list, 47 goals behind.

If he had stayed, he likely would have claimed it by now, and it would be a big ask for him to get in the next two or three years. You would not put it past Kane, however.
