Lucas Bergvall proved his quality away from Tottenham as he made a real impact off the bench for Sweden in their 5-1 World Cup win vs Tunisia.

Graham Potter's side thrashed their opponents in the early hours as Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres were both on target.

Bergvall became Sweden's youngest-ever World Cup player as he stepped off the bench in their tournament opener on Monday morning.

Bergvall broke Jesper Blomqvist's 32-year record as he came on to assist Yasin Ayari's late strike at 20 years and 132 days old.

Swedish media were thoroughly impressed with his cameo and he could now be in line to start in their next two Group F games.

The Blue and Yellow face the Netherlands on Saturday, 20 June before taking on Japan on Friday, 26 June.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi must be watching on and taking note of his performances as he decides which players to place his faith in next season.

What did Swedish media say about Lucas Bergvall's performance vs Tunisia?

Bergvall was handed his 11th cap for his country against Tunisia, with just three starts since his debut in January 2024.

Potter's side have been widely doubted ahead of the World Cup after only making the play-offs due to their unbeaten Nations League C campaign.

They proved any doubters wrong overnight with a commanding performance that Bergvall certainly played his part in from the bench.

He came on for Celtic's Benjamin Nygren in the 64th minute and completed four passes and one successful dribble, while also winning two ground duels.

The 20-year-old set Ayari up for his brace and Sweden's fifth goal deep into added time with a successful tackle on Elias Achouri in the final third.

His performance from the bench was given a three out of five rating by FotballSkanalen, who said: "Came on with energy and determination. Made the key pass that set up Ayari for the 5-1 goal."

SvenskaNews also praised Bergvall post-match by writing: "Sweden’s youngest-ever World Cup player. Came on as a substitute and delivered a beautiful cross.

"(He) brought a great energy to the game. He was very confident, looked to drive the ball forward, and played with a lot of maturity. Shot over the goal late in the game was a golden opportunity."

Could Bergvall leave Tottenham this summer?

Bergvall is clearly highly rated by many in his home country, but he did struggle for regular game time in North London last season.

He was only handed 11 starts in the Premier League throughout the campaign, with one goal and four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

That lack of game time has seen doubts raised around his future, but sources have told Football Insider that Bergvall has no plans to leave Tottenham this summer.

De Zerbi praised him in April after he "changed the game" during their 2-2 draw with Brighton with an assist for Xavi Simons.
